Why You Should Buy Food for Your Restaurant from Wholesalers

by Dolores Fletcher

Running a restaurant means choosing and buying the food you will serve in your restaurant. Once you know what type of cuisine you want to serve, you have to determine which dishes you will sell. For example, you may decide that you want to have a Mexican restaurant and that you want to sell empanadas, among other things. Once you know your menu options, there are still more decisions to make, including whether you should buy any food items premade and from where you will buy your food and ingredients. You might save time and money by buying some items premade from a wholesaler instead of making every menu item on site from scratch.  In the above example case, you might find a wholesale empanada supplier who also sells other Mexican foods. Buying from a wholesaler can be a good idea for your restaurant.

You'll Get Better Prices

One reason that buying food for your restaurant is a good idea is that wholesalers often offer products at better prices. Because the wholesaler deals in bulk, the price of labor and packaging is minimized to begin with, and the more product you buy from them, the better your prices tend to be, especially if you can sign a long-term contract with the wholesale food supplier.

You'll Save Space

Bulk packaging takes up less space than individual packaging for raw ingredients, and buying pre-prepared foods wholesale can help you save a lot of space in your kitchen, because you don't have to store all of the individual ingredients for it. Commercial kitchens don't always have a lot of extra space, and storage space is always going to be at a premium. If you buy empanadas or another premade food that just needs to be cooked, the product will likely be stored in boxes or bags that you can easily stack in the walk-in or freezer until it's time to cook and serve the empanadas. The regular size of the packages will make it easy to stack them neatly, which will minimize the space they take up. You can then use the space you've saved to expand your menu options because you have room for other foods or flavors.

You want to make sure that you are making all the right choices for your restaurant. Look into purchasing food from a wholesale food supplier to see where you can save time, space, and money.
